Jackson helps GCC top MCC Democrat and Chronicle
(Thursday, January 31, 2002) -- Brian Jackson scored 31 points as visiting Genesee Community College rallied in the second half to defeat Monroe Community College on Wednesday night, 99-95.
Terry George scored 23, Melvin Council (Wilson) added 16 and LaShawn Levert (Edison) had 15 for the Cougars (19-3). Genesee CC defeated Monroe CC for the second time this year.
Michael Garrett scored 18 points, Latavia Escho added 17, Brandon Andrews (Bishop Kearney) 15 and Ray Henry (Rush-Henrietta) added 13 for the Tribunes (17-5).
Iona 61, Canisius 60: Courtney Fields scored a career-high 28 points and host Canisius (3-8, 6-13) missed three shots in the final five seconds in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game.
Fields, who also grabbed 11 rebounds, scored 18 points in the second half and 12 of the Gaels' (7-4, 10-12) final 15 points.
WOMEN
Monroe CC 78, Genesee CC 38: Bilisa Perkins scored 21 points and Janitha Knight (Lyons) scored 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for MCC. Emily Perpich had 16 points and Arin Belden scored six points and had 11 assists for the Tribunes (22-0).
RIT 57, Buffalo Medaille 48: Tonya Campbell (Aquinas) scored five points and Lauren Long posted 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Tigers (1-15). Katie Rothaar (Olympia) added seven points for RIT. Medaille is 5-13.
Finger Lakes CC 82, Nazareth JV 30: Aleen Heffron (Prattsburgh) scored 22 points and had seven steals for Finger Lakes.
Maia Chaka (Edison) scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Nicole Denniston (Palmyra-Macedon) scored 12 points and had 9 rebounds and 8 assists for FLCC (15-8).
