Bremer, Bonnies knock off Dayton Democrat and Chronicle staff and wire reports
DAYTON, OHIO (Monday, February 4, 2002) -- J.R. Bremer scored 30 points to lead St. Bonaventure to an 81-75 victory over Dayton on Sunday.
It was the sixth 30-or-more game for Bremer, the leading scorer in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Marques Green added 17, Vidal Massiah 15 and Patricio Prato 11 for the Bonnies (5-4 A-10, 13-7).
"I guess the week off came at a good time for us," Bonnies coach Jan van Breda Kolff said. "We came in well-rested and we played with a lot of energy, probably the best energy since the Connecticut game. Our guards played well on both ends of the floor. They made shots and made the extra pass."
Reserve Mark Jones had a career-high 16 points for Dayton (5-3, 13-6). Keith Waleskowski added 13 and Brooks Hall 11.
Ramod Marshall, the Flyers' leading 3-point shooter, was just 1 of 10 from long range and finished with eight points. Point guard David Morris fouled out after 23 minutes and Jones took over, hitting 6 of 6 from the field.
St. Bonaventure took the lead to stay with 11:29 left in the first half on a 3-pointer by Prato and led 49-38 at halftime.
Dayton was able to keep the lead in single digits most of the second half, but never got closer than three points. A 3-pointer by Jones cut the lead to four with 23 seconds left, but Marques Green made two free throws for St. Bonaventure with 16 seconds remaining and Dayton was unable to score again.
