Penfield uses late rally to defeat Spencerport

(Wednesday, January 30, 2002) -- The Patriots did it again. Penfield came from behind for the second consecutive game to defeat Spencerport 54-51 on Tuesday in a Monroe County League game.

Penfield trailed by five points at the half, but Kelly LaPolla hit a 3-pointer with 1:42 remaining and Ashley McMillen iced the game, going 3-for-4 from the free-throw line in the last 24 seconds for the Patriots (4-3 league, 8-7 overall).

Spencerport rallied as Emily Beale's 3-pointer moved the Rangers within one point with 17 seconds remaining. Beale's 3-point attempt at the buzzer hit the backboard and bounced off the rim.

Pittsford Mendon 55, Batavia 33: Carly Hoffend scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Vikings (14-2).

Pittsford Sutherland 55, Greece Odyssey 22: Jen McGuire scored eight points for Sutherland (10-5).

Webster 55, Brockport 40: Colleen Kelly grabbed 13 rebounds and scored 14 points for the Warriors (6-1, 10-5). Katie Sue Jones scored 11 points for Brockport (7-9).

Greece Arcadia 52, Irondequoit 46: Latoya Anderson had 12 points and nine rebounds for Arcadia (2-5, 7-7).

Hilton 37, Rush-Henrietta 35: Marisa Clark hit a bank shot with 38 seconds left to give Hilton (3-5, 9-7) the lead.

Greece Athena 68, Churchville-Chili 31: Lyndsey Gallina tallied 13 points and 12 rebounds for Athena (7-0, 13-2).

Fairport 48, Gates Chili 37: Sabrina Boykin scored 16 points for Fairport (6-0, 11-3).

Greece Olympia 60, Eastridge 31: Jamie Painting scored nine points in the fourth quarter for Olympia (7-2, 10-5).

ROCHESTER LEAGUE

East 55, Marshall 25: Shanel Bell had 12 points and 19 rebounds for the host Orientals (5-4, 9-8).

Franklin 44, Wilson 36: Adriane Reaser had 16 points for Franklin (8-1, 10-3). Kyecia Freeman scored her 1,000th career point for Wilson (3-5, 9-7).

School of the Arts 55, Edison 44: Marshay White scored 23 points for SOTA (5-3, 9-6).

NON-LEAGUE

Arkport 87, Northstar Christian 30: Christina Burdette scored 13 points for Northstar.

C.G. Finney 40, Webster Christian 30: Rosemarie van der Jagt scored 20 points for Finney. Mary Jollow scored 24 points for the Warriors.
