Big fourth quarter propels Sutherland

(Thursday, January 31, 2002) -- Pittsford Sutherland rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Brighton 43-41 in a Monroe County game on Wednesday.

Ashley Cerniglia scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Anne Hellebush scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds for the Knights (11-5).

Hellebush and Cerniglia combined for all of Sutherland's 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Jessica Webster scored 11 points for Brighton.

FINGER LAKES

Newark 47, Canandaigua 43 (OT): Amanda Baker scored four points in overtime to boost Newark.

Angie Perillo scored on a 4-foot jump shot to tie the game at 39-39 for Newark (12-4). Newark missed its final shot in regulation.

Perillo scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Megan Krebbeks scored 15 points for the Braves (12-3).

Mynderse 52, Penn Yan 47 (OT): Sandy Tompkins hit a 3-pointer as the clock ran out to tie the game 45-45 and send it into overtime for Mynderse.

Tompkins finished with 19 points and Heather Andrews had 13 for Mynderse (8-2, 13-4).

Christine Dean scored 19 points and Carlee Buck, Rebecca Mitchell and Kerry Hallings each scored eight points for Penn Yan (2-8, 7-9).

Harley-Allendale-Columbia 52, Naples 45: Elizabeth Solomon scored six of her seven points in the fourth quarter to help the Wolves (1-12, 5-12) out of a third-quarter rut.

Victor 49, Wayne 26: Victor went on a 16-0 run to start the second half to pull away from Wayne.

Suzanne Sculli scored 12 points for Victor (6-5, 10-7).

Wayne is 0-10, 3-13.

South Seneca 57, Geneva DeSales 52 (OT): Erin Farney and Jamie Fisher each scored three points in overtime to lead South Seneca to the win.

Farney hit two free throws with 13 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 48-48.

Farney finished with 22 points for South Seneca (13-0, 14-1).

Julia Augustus scored 23 points for DeSales (11-2, 13-3).

Waterloo 55, Midlakes 33: Ashley Roger scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and made 4 steals for Waterloo.

Vanessa Chain scored eight points in her first varsity game, sinking 3 of 4 free-throw attempts for Waterloo (7-3, 11-5).

Kate Clyde scored 10 points for Midlakes (2-8, 8-8).

Dundee 47, Red Jacket 30: Logan Polmanteer scored 12 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter to help Dundee (5-7, 5-11) pull away.

Polmanteer added five assists, while Amanda Pratt and Jill Forman each scored eight points.

Amanda Zonneville scored 11 points for Red Jacket.

Honeoye 48, Romulus 35: Danielle Smith scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Amiee Levesque totaled 10 points and eight steals for the host Bulldogs (9-4, 9-8).

Honeoye outscored Romulus 17-11 in the fourth quarter, and only gave up a basket in the third quarter.

Jessica Karlsen, Megan Waite, Emily Persing, and Christina Wilson each scored six points for Romulus.

WAYNE COUNTY

Sodus 59, Red Creek 41: Keisha Wigent scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Danielle Britt added 17 points for the visiting Spartans (12-5).

Samantha Pople scored 11 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and had 5 steals, Brittany Younglove scored 11 points and Amanda Gregg added 10 points for Red Creek (10-6).

Clyde-Savannah 51, East Rochester 30: Tied 27-27 going into the fourth quarter, Holly Harper helped spark a 24-3 surge by scoring nine of her 12 points for Clyde-Savannah (10-2, 13-6).

Carrie Kolczynski scored seven of her points in the fourth and finished with 23. Harper and Kolczynski both grabbed 10 rebounds.

Marick Volpe stole the ball six times in the fourth and Lisette Tavano had five assists in the fourth.

Laura Glaza finished with 13 points for visiting ER (4-7, 6-9).

North Rose-Wolcott 49, Gananda 41: Amanda McIntyre scored 12 points and had 12 rebounds and 5 steals for NR-W (3-12).

Jen Coon scored 15 points and had 13 rebounds for Gananda (3-12).

NON-LEAGUE

York 60, Lima Christian 50: Kristen Valentino scored 13 points and Kaitlin Kolb tallied 28 points and grabbed 20 rebounds for York (15-2).

Rachel Allport had 10 points and Amanda Krukowski scored 11 for the Saints (5-12).

Lima Christian hit four 3-pointers.

Bishop Kearney 49, Marion 28: Kate Sereika grabbed 9 rebounds and made 6 steals to go with 8 points, and Ashlee Parizek scored 15 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and had 5 steals for Kearney (10-6).

Suzy Defisher scored 15 points for Marion.

Newfane-VI 49, Lyndonville 38: Clancy Johnson scored 12 points to lead host Lyndonville (3-12).

Geneva 36, Avon 35: Karen Crisanti scored 12 points and had 14 rebounds for Geneva (7-11).

Lora Clark scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds for Avon (3-13).
