Ryan Kerr's 13 points coming off the bench helps the Trojans win their 12th game Democrat and Chronicle
(Saturday, February 2, 2002) -- Leading by one at halftime, Greece Athena turned up the offense in the second half to defeat Penfield 85-76 on Friday in a Monroe County game.
Ryan Kerr came off the bench and scored 11 of his 13 points, including three 3-pointers in a one-minute span, for Athena (7-1 league, 12-3 overall). Six players scored in double figures for the Trojans.
Darquinn Johnson scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Athena. Joe Tisa added 15 points and Steve Taylor scored 14 points for the Trojans.
Adam Balistere scored 23 points for Penfield (3-5, 4-12).
Greece Arcadia 67, Spencerport 50: Brandon Maier scored 11 of his 26 points in the third quarter for Arcadia (5-3, 6-10). Dan Phillip added 11 points and eight rebounds and Adam Lucas scored 11 points for the Titans.
Mike Dermody scored 17 points for Spencerport (0-8, 0-14). Alex Kilroy added 14 points for the Rangers.
Fairport 70, Webster 44: Steve McDonnell scored 26 points, Kevin Povio had 13 and Mike Marchewka scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Red Raiders (7-1, 15-1).
Fairport broke away in the fourth quarter, using man-to-man defense. Chris Wensley finished with 15 points for the visiting Warriors (3-5, 9-7).
FINGER LAKES
Newark 66, Victor 46: Henry Kuperus hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer in the first quarter to spark a 20-0 run for Newark (11-1, 14-3), which clinched at least a tie for the Finger Lakes East title.
Waterloo 69, Penn Yan 52: Dan Mueller scored 22 points to reach 1,000 for his Waterloo career.
Jerry Nolan scored 15 points for Penn Yan (10-7).
NON-LEAGUE
Northstar Christian 56, Webster Christian 55: Jerry Tregea hit a running jumper with two seconds left to give Northstar a 56-55 lead.
Isaiah Johnson scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds and T.J. Marcello added 13 points and nine rebounds for Northstar (7-10).
C.G. Finney 62, Lima Christian 57: Justin Reid hit a 3-pointer with the score tied at 57-57 to give Finney the lead with one minute left, and Joe Walker hit two free throws to seal the game. Marcus Garland scored 20 points for Finney. Reid finished with 14 points and Walker scored 11.
Wilson 62, School of the Arts 57: Greg Blocker came off the bench and scored six points in the fourth quarter to give Wilson the victory. He also stole the ball and drove for a basket that gave Wilson the lead for good.
