(Saturday, February 2, 2002) -- Intense games always come down to the wire, and in non-league games, it's no exception.
Kelley Garvin hit a free throw with 1:05 left to play to give Bishop Kearney a 43-42 lead, as it went on to defeat Mercy 46-42 on Friday.
Sarah Nassar hit a jump shot with 30 seconds left to increase Kearney's lead to three points and Kate Nicholson added a free throw 10 seconds later to seal the win.
Garvin finished with 20 points, including five 3-pointers, for the Kings (11-6).
Ashlee Parizek scored five points and grabbed seven rebounds before leaving with a left ankle injury with Kearney leading 34-32 with two minutes left in the third quarter.
Cathryn Kittelberger also grabbed seven rebounds for the Kings.
Meg Ryan scored 13 points and Beth Kunkel added 10 points for Mercy.
Lima Christian 63, C.G. Finney 30: Taylor Brown scored eight of her 14 points in the first quarter for Lima (6-12). Brown also grabbed 10 rebounds and Rachel Allport scored 13 points.
Rosemarie van der Jagt scored 21 points for Finney (6-12).
Greece Olympia 53, Edison 36: Jamie Painting scored 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and added 4 assists to lead Olympia.
Painting hit three 3-pointers and Jessica Lee hit two 3-pointers in the second quarter as Olympia (11-5) took a 31-19 halftime lead.
Dee Williams scored 14 points for Edison.
Northstar 41, Webster Christian 32: Ashley Knox scored 22 points to lead visiting Northstar.
Abby Streeter and Christina Burdette each added six points for Northstar.
Nary Jollow finished with 17 points for the Warriors.
FINGER LAKES
Geneva DeSales 50, Honeoye 30: Erin Caster scored 17 points to lead DeSales.
Julia Augustus added 15 points and Andrea DiNieri scored eight points for the Saints (12-2, 14-3).
Jamie Koehnlein scored eight points and Jenny Warder grabbed eight rebounds for Honeoye (9-5 league).
Waterloo 54, Penn Yan 42: Meghan McLane scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Ashley Rodger scored 11 points and had eight rebounds for Waterloo (8-3, 12-5). Claire Eshenour scored 10 points and had eight assists for Waterloo.
Christine Dean scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers, for Penn Yan (2-9, 7-10).
Marcus Whitman 63, Mynderse 40: Elissa Krossber scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Claire Tuck added 19 points for the visiting Wildcats (7-3, 12-5). This is the first time in four years that Marcus Whitman has won at Mynderse.
Jackie Caratozzolo scored 10 points for Mynderse (7-3, 11-5).
Red Jacket 39, Romulus 37: Caitlin Burns banked in a shot to give Red Jacket the lead with 19 seconds left. Burns finished with five points.
Romulus came down the court, but failed to convert two shots in the final seconds.
Romulus rallied from a 30-25 deficit at halftime. Jessica Karlsen hit a 3-point shot to bring the Warriors within two in the third quarter.
Meredith Henry scored 11 points for the Indians (9-8).
Emily Persing scored nine points and Tina Wilson grabbed 10 rebounds for Romulus (8-9).
Romulus was 4-for-17 from the free-throw line and the Red Jackets were made 7 of 18 free throws.
South Seneca 87, Dundee 20: Jamie Fisher scored 23 points to lead South Seneca (13-0, 16-1). Abby Brewer added 16 points and 15 rebounds and Erin Farney scored 14 points for the Falcons. Senior forward Charity Williams scored a career-high nine points for South Seneca.
Bloomfield 47, Naples 29: Sarah McWilliams grabbed 14 rebounds and Jackie Hammond scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the host Bombers (8-4, 9-7).
Newark 48, Victor 36: Angie Perillo scored eight of her 18 points in the first quarter for Newark (13-4). Amanda Baker added 12 points for the Reds.
Kathryn Ferguson scored 11 points for Victor (6-6, 10-8).
WAYNE COUNTY
Gananda 49, Williamson 46: Jen Coon scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Catherine Rieck scored 14 points and Carissa Scott added 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for Gananda (4-12).
Courtney Peters finished with 21 points for Williamson.
Lyons 43, Marion 33: Danielle McCray scored 12 points and Ashley Stoughton added 10 for the Lions (14-0, 15-3). Freshman Krystal Adriaansen scored 10 points for Marion (6-7, 7-10).
Clyde-Savannah 52, North Rose-Wolcott 26: Lisette Tavano scored 14 points, Carrie Kolczynski added 10 points and Merrick Volpe had 10 points to lead the Golden Eagles (11-2, 14-3).
LIVINGSTON COUNTY
Livonia 70, Hornell 28: Sophomore Becca Malinowski scored 12 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, made 9 steals and had 5 assists to lead Livonia (6-2, 15-2).
Caitlin MacPherson added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals and Krissy Wilson scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds for the Bulldogs.
