(Sunday, February 3, 2002) -- Penfield avenged a lopsided loss in January by handing Greece Athena its first league loss, 48-44, Saturday in a Monroe County girls basketball game.
Eighth-grader Kayleigh Duda scored four points during an 8-0 run to give Penfield a 48-40 lead.
Penfield's Ashley McMillen went out with a leg injury with seven minutes left in the game. After she went out, Katie Pauly hit a 3-pointer to boost Athena to a 38-37 lead. Carrie Voycheck responded with a 3-point play to give Penfield a 40-38 lead. Lyndsay Dalton hit two free throws to tie the game, 40-40, for Athena (7-1 league, 13-3 overall).
Pittsford Mendon 51, Pittsford Sutherland 39: Lindsay Bartholf scored 20 points, made 6 steals and had 5 assists for Mendon (15-2). Mendon clinched the Division III title for the second consecutive year.
Sutherland is 11-6.
Fairport 52, Gates Chili 28: Liz Hahn scored 16 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and had 4 steals for Fairport (12-3).
Gates Chili is 2-13.
ROCHESTER LEAGUE CLASSIC
At East
East 46, Edison 38: Porsha McGowan had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots for East (6-4, 10-8).
Franklin 56, School of the Arts 32: Natasha Johnson had a career-high 32 points for Franklin (9-1, 11-3).
Wilson 43, Marshall 28: Anastacia Dixon grabbed 14 rebounds for Wilson (10-7).
LIVINGSTON COUNTY
Perry 48, Caledonia-Mumford 39: Meghan Backus scored 16 points for Cal-Mum (5-12).
NON-LEAGUE
Eastridge 67, Webster Christian 32: Amy Anderson scored 12 of her 26 points in the second quarter and grabbed 11 rebounds for Eastridge.
Geneseo 56, Greece Odyssey 27: Rachel Pagano-Fuller scored 10 points for Odyssey.
BOYS
FINGER LAKES
Perry 65, Wayne 58 (OT): Inaki Uriz scored five of his 24 points in the overtime period to boost Perry (13-3 overall).
Bloomfield 58, Naples 40: Jim Bellis scored 24 of his 28 points in the second half for Bloomfield.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY
Honeoye Falls-Lima 77, Bath 37: T.J. Annable scored 14 of his 15 points in the second half for HF-L (5-2, 11-6).
NON-LEAGUE
Pittsford Sutherland 65, Victor 62 (OT): Sutherland led by six points with one minute left in overtime and held on for the three-point victory.
Brandon Turner made a layup with 20 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 55 for Sutherland. C.J. Lee scored 17 points to lead Sutherland.
Pittsford Mendon 82, Canandaigua 73: Sophomore guard Chris Shalvoy scored 23 points and set a school record with 15 assists for Mendon (7-3, 11-4).
Zach Sheridan scored 16 points for Canandagiua (7-5, 9-7).
York 62, Wheatland-Chili 61: Brian Hill scored 45 points, which sets a school-record, and grabbed 18 rebounds for W-C. This was Hill's 17th consecutive double-double.
Marshall 90, Berkshire Academy-II 72: Christian Darisaw scored 16 of his 27 points in the first half for Marshall (3-11).
