No. 1 Gates Chili sweeps Rush-Henrietta

(Sunday, February 3, 2002) -- Senior middle-blocker Karen Simpson tallied seven kills and four blocks and senior setter Adrienne Billotti added 25 assists as No. 1 Gates Chili cruised to a 30-13, 30-22, 30-24 victory over No. 8 Rush-Henrietta in a Division I quarterfinal match Saturday.

Emily Tatar recorded six consecutive aces in the second game for host Gates Chili. Junior Jill Simpson had three blocks and six kills for the host Spartans (16-2).

Senior setter Heather Mummery had 9 digs, 3 aces, and 4 kills for the Royal Comets (5-14).

Gates Chili's last loss came to Irondequoit in the Churchville-Chili Tournament back in December. The Spartans play Fairport at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Roberts Wesleyan.

No. 3 Greece Arcadia 30-30-30, No. 6 Penfield 18-15-15: Stevey Knowles had 38 assists and Beth Sanger added 12 kills and three aces for the Titans (15-3).

Penfield finished 7-11.

Greece Arcadia will face the winner of Monday's Brockport/Webster match on Tuesday.

No. 4 Fairport 30-30-33, No. 5 Hilton 12-21-31: Ashley Cottengim had 16 kills and 10 digs and Hilary Dank added 17 kills for Fairport. Sam Carr had 30 assists for the Red Raiders (13-4).

No. 7 Webster 30-30-30, No. 10 Churchville-Chili 20-10-12: Erin Black had 12 kills and Andrea Blitz added nine kills and five aces for the host Warriors (6-12). Churchville-Chili finished 2-16.

DIVISION II

No. 7 Pittsford Mendon 30-30-30, No. 10 Greece Odyssey 22-24-27: Kristin Malta tallied eight digs and two aces and Caitlin Harris added 24 assists and six digs for Mendon (8-10).

Odyssey finished 1-17.

No. 8 Eastridge 30-30-34, No. 9 East Rochester 26-26-32: Vanessa Buda made eight kills to lead Eastridge. Jamie Fortner added 19 assists for the Lancers (8-10). E. Rochester finished 1-17.

No. 4 Spencerport 32-30-30, No. 5 Greece Olympia 30-28-24: Jessica Hanna recorded five blocks and eight kills for the Spartans (9-9). Spencerport is 11-7.

The Rangers face the Pittsford Sutherland/Eastridge winner at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday at Roberts Wesleyan.
