Extra time doesn't pay for Amerks
0202story1_1.jpg It may be time for someone to let the Rochester Americans and Albany River Rats in on what really isn't a secret -- you don't get paid overtime for going to overtime. "I wish we did," Amerks goalie Tom Askey said after Friday's 1-1 tie in front of 8,280 fans at Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial, the 18th time in 48 games that the Amerks have gone to overtime. Albany's Richard Rochefort scored in the game's first minute, Amerks defenseman Henrik Tallinder tied the score late in the second period, then neither team could find the net again. FULL STORY...

Hurlbut returns to injured list
Mention Mike Hurlbut's name to Rochester Americans trainer Kent Weisbeck and it means one thing: job security. Hurlbut went back on the injured list and this time he could face surgery if the herniated disk in his neck doesn't respond to medication. Hurlbut thought the stiff neck he experienced over the past couple of weeks was nothing serious. But when the discomfort continued and he realized he had lost a great deal of strength in his right arm, he headed to the doctor and X-rays and an MRI revealed the herniated disk. FULL STORY...

The rematch: 104-66
0202story1_1.jpg Little boys lined up to shake Tyler Relph's hand after he scored 32 points from all types of spots on the McQuaid basketball court on Friday night. And Relph was far from the only Knight that had a good time during McQuaid's 104-66 romp over rival Aquinas. ''We're not going to look back and say we didn't play hard on this play anymore," Relph said. ''That's what we need against every opponent." FULL STORY...

Scott Pitoniak Scott Pitoniak
Dan Kelly chuckles at the memory. While he and his twin brother Kevin were sitting at the kitchen table munching on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, older brother Jim would be out in the side yard, throwing pass after pass after pass under the watchful eye of Joe Kelly, the family patriarch. "Dad was pretty tough on Jim," Dan said, recalling those daily lunch-time practice sessions at their East Brady, Pa., home about an hour north of Pittsburgh. "We'd be eating our sandwiches and nudge one another and say, 'Aren't you glad you're not Jim.' " FULL STORY...

Timing is everything, and that could be good news for Buffalo Bills all-time quarterback Jim Kelly, controversial owner Art Modell and punter Ray Guy. The list of finalists for today's Pro Football Hall of Fame selection is the weakest in many years and a minimum of four men must be chosen. Next year's ballot will be significantly beefed up by newly-eligible candidates. FULL STORY...

This might be a good time to set the record straight. The Rochester Knighthawks, who have been touted all season as the best team in the National Lacrosse League, aren't.
